What Color is Your Parachute?
Sometimes I wonder if I weren't meant for an office job. Here's why:
I adore office supplies. Seriously. I was that kid in elementary school that blew her allowance on folders and paper and pens every single week. The first time I went into a Staples I wanted to ask if I could just move in.
Before I moved my post-it collection was huge! I had many many styles and colors of post its. I didn't really have much of a use for them, but I am unable to resist a new post-it design. When I worked in theater as a stage manager, I was Post-It Lady. I gave notes on them, left them places (who can forget the oh so handy: "Don't you dare forget your keys" post-it I would leave myself on the front door of the theater or my favorite "Use the damn med form"--it's an inside joke that will take far too long to explain). I had to give all of my lovely post-its away when I moved, but that's okay. I don't really use them right now. I miss having a reason to buy so many post-its.
I actually like doing paperwork. This is ironic because getting me to do any form of homework at any point in my schooling was close to the experience of saying "Heeeeeeeere kitty, let's pierce those toes!" When I actually sat down to do it though, once I got over my "I hate this I wanna do something else is this stupid stuff done yet?"ness and started working, it wasn't bad at all and I actually enjoyed it. I didn't mind math homework once I understood the processes--although it still wasn't my favorite, I didn't mind study questions.
I have always liked writing papers. Always. In elementary I used to say that I couldn't wait for high school so I could write essays. But then, I am a blogger. This one shouldn't be surprising.
I like using the computer. I like spending long hours in front of a computer. Again, I am a blogger. This one shouldn't be surprising.
I like filing. Seriously.
My absolute favorite part of my job is the end of my closing shift when I get to sit down and do the counting and the paperwork of the day. It beats every single other thing I do during my shift, hands down.
It is something to think about. I really do miss those post-its.
