Another waste of a perfectly good 90 minutes
Tonight we watched The People I Know, with Al Pacino.
Oh my god, talk about a story that went nowhere. "Thriller" Uh-huh, whatever.
This movie really did have potential. I can see how they could have expanded the action, or gotten to the point earlier. I also understand that this movie is more about Al Pacino's character, Eli, who is older and sad and mostly washed up. There was one really good "Pacino" scene, and as I said earlier in reference to Anthony Hopkins--typecasting is bad, but dude! You're Al freakin' Pacino, raise that gravelly voice of yours!
Suddenly it seems to be trendy for normally "strong" actors to play "weak" characters. Throughout most of the movie Pacino was a shuffling addict who mumbled and had exactly no clue as to what was going on around him. It was intensely hard to watch him in such a meek, poorly written role. I can see where he tried to take it, but the writing just wasn't there.
Sadness.
I hope some good stuff comes out on video soon!
