Mmm. Good.

Is it really almost October?

When I lived in California I had a boss who told me that the reason it feels like time speeds up as you get older is because you have less of it left. Or not morbidly put: A year takes less time when you're 30 than 3 because it is a smaller portion of your life. Turning 4 is a fourth of your life as opposed to turning 39, which is a thirty ninth of your life! That's why when you think back to your childhood, the summers always felt endless and it seemed to take a whole lifetime to get to your next birthday. It's actually not a bad theory.

But wow, is it really almost October?

I guess it is. The leaves are starting to turn from the springy/summery green to the fall red and yellow. The ride to work is looking more and more like a kaleidoscope each day. Nighttime comes much earlier than it used to, and there is a cold bite to the air, even when it's warm. The sky is cloudy in the morning and night but during the day the sun shines. Your skin feels sharper than it used to and there is more texture when you breathe.

I love it. I love the fall. It is absolutely my favorite season. I love needing a sweater but not a coat. I love wearing jeans and real shoes every day. When I was in school I loved having the built in excuse to go office supply shopping. I love the premeires of the television shows I love and discovering new shows to get excited about. I looooooooooove fall movies (Yay Oscar season!). I love reading lists and the smell of textbooks (even though I don't really encounter them anymore). I love the change from the laid back days of summer, when it was too hot to really do anything, to the more focused and goal oriented feel of the fall. I love the smell of woodchips and freshly mowed grass and last second barbecues. I love the smell of the cold.

Hooray for fall! I feel like I should be tossing bunches of leaves into the air and then setting off to buy something plaid.

In Erinland, where I get to control the weather, it is always fall.....and Jerry O'Connell is NOT allowed to wear a shirt. Did you see Crossing Jordan? Oh my. I don't normally go all "oooh...whoaaaa" (at least not audibly), but Oh. My. Oops, sorry. Was I drooling?

Life is good.
