Joan of Arcadia

Joan of Arcadia has to be one of the smartest shows I have seen on television in.... a long time. I've been watching it since it's pilot episode way back in the fall. I admit to missing a couple of episodes (damn that having to make a living), but every time I watch it the show just amazes me. I highly reccommend everybody give it a chance. One of these Fridays at 8:00, sit down and turn on CBS. You won't be sorry. For those of you who are not informed of this new show, it's basically Joan of Arc for the millenium. Joan is a sixteen year old girl who gets assignments from God and has to find ways of carrying them out while trying to balance school work, family obligations and friends. It sounds a little trite, but one of the fun things about this show is that God doesn't miraculously appear as this shining light or as the same person every time. God appears through every ordinary people. Suddenly the school janitor isn't just the janitor, he's God. Then a couple of minutes later he walks away and disappears into the crowd. He (She/It for the pc among you) uses slang, gets irritated, is sarcastic and often gets a little impatient with Joan. Joan isn't the all willing messenger/carry-outer either. She talks back, questions the deity and stands up for herself. I am sure there are those of you out there who think I'm full of it and that this is but the mere rambling of another television saturated brain. Well yes, my brain has been filled with tv rays and mindless sitcoms. Don't you think, then, that with all the tv I have watched growing up, I will know that which of I speak? I have a plethora of other shows to compare Joan to. And based on that comparison I can tell you that it is worth watching. Trust me.
